Damon Handon, Assistant to the Director of Basketball Operations. Damon has served as Coach for the 17 & under boy’s basketball team since DC Assaults inception in 1993. Recently accepting a new role, Damon has a wide range of responsibilities including, recruiting high school players, prepare scouting reports, film exchange, coordinating and managing team schedules, overseeing practice and game day preparation, assisting with planning and coordinating travel.

Damon’s love for basketball was birthed at a very young age.  At age eight he started playing basketball, joining AAU and traveling throughout the US.  Damon was an all-star performer at Potomac High School leading his team to the state finals in 1987.   Damon graduated from Potomac with honors in 1988 and accepted a basketball scholarship to Bowie State University where he studied Communications, receiving a Bachelors Degree in 1995.

Since completing college, in addition to coaching, he is a Teacher with Prince Georges County Public School System, providing academic instruction for students in grades 9-12.  Damon’s sincere job satisfaction comes in the form of energizing and inspiring students to work towards achieving success.  Damon is a strong advocate of education, commitment and hard work.  He believes that the combination of these factors can only collaborate in a winning situation. Damon has assisted over 100 young men to receive Division I scholarships and assisted with the development of five current NBA players.

A native of Washington, DC Damon currently resides in Upper Marlboro, Maryland with his wife Linnell and son Daryl.  Besides spending countless hours mentoring and tutoring young people, his hobbies include reading, watching basketball, football and boxing.
